Okay todays topic is going to be on problem solving. I have gone through a lot of my own problems myself. I was thought in the church that all I needed to do was have Faith and everything will be alright. I’m not at all saying this is the wrong but it isn’t a complete notion as far as I can see. There is so much not being said that some preachers may not be entirely aware of. There were so many questions I needed answers to as I began my search for wisdom. The two things I have ever heard growing up (and I was a deeply spiritual and devout Christian growing up) was:
1. Read your Bible that’s the only piece of literature you will ever need, and
2. Have faith in God and all your problems will go away
Addressing the first assumption, in the bible it says wisdom is the principle thing therefore get wisdom. The wisdom we got from the old testament was not the wisdom we got in the new testament it was revised so I don’t see what’s wrong in learning from other teachers. Some people blind themselves to other valuable teachings because of their faith. Some miss the whole point of the scripture and it becomes religious tribalism. It became an us vs them scenario. The first lesson Christ taught us was tolerance which is a golden rule in Christianity that a lot of well meaning Christians always seem to over look. Religion is there for a purpose and as long as we do not understand the reason for this instruction then we become misled into doing things for the wrong reasons and never being fully transformed having a superficial understanding of what the bible was intended for.
The second assumption I now understand to be a product of faulty thinking. Problems will never end. I have come to know that these so called problems are stepping stones and we need not fear them. We are not meant to curse them but learn from them. We musn’t curse at the dark but light a candle and that is your purpose. The Christians who have gained an education see it has God’s intervention. A way that is mysterious to us but an advanced understanding of Christianity means God is still at work in the dark days and in the light.
So now to my point, we can have faith and solve our own problems. We musn’t be to lazy to exert our will. If one understands his purpose on earth and every problem is an opportunity for growth then he stops himself from placing blame or responsibility on anyone outside himself. You can live with your problems without ever losing faith. We’ve been giving power for agency in our lives and it takes us looking with whether it is in finding a philosophy that gets us through or actually exerting our forces but problems are not the problem. Our thinking of those problems are.
