We’ve all had friends with Overprotective Parents. These were the kids who weren’t allowed at sleepovers and their curfews were about three hours earlier than everyone else’s. Although this can be frustrating for kids, the real problems with having overprotective parents come in adulthood.
Here are some problems kids with overprotective parents may experience in adulthood:
1. They feel entitled
Overprotective parents tend to spend a lot of time and energy on their kids. This causes the children to grow up with an over-inflated sense of self. They were the center of their parent’s attention, so they think that’s the way it should be with everyone.
One study out of the University of Arizona found that kids of helicopter parents are more likely to think they deserve the best and that they deserve a break every now and again. While these are general statements that anyone may agree with, kids of helicopter parents were much more likely to share these views.
2. They have emotional problems
Overprotective parents tend to shield their children from hurt and pain. When they can’t shield bad things, they’ll always lessen the impact.
