Being an African-American young girl and having the ability to see yourself reflected in the world brings nothing less than a true sense of pride. Many mainstream toy manufacturers have begun to celebrate diversity by creating multi-ethnic dolls; however, still a large population of children have still remained on the outskirts until now.
A year ago, Crystal Kay, of Kansas City, Missouri, had no idea that when she began to refurbish her 10-year-old daughter's porcelain dolls, that it would turn into a mission where she would be at the forefront of promoting diversity and positive body images for not only young girls but women world-wide.

Kay's hand-crafted custom dolls come in different skin tones, eye colors, hairstyles, and also reflect skin conditions such as vitiligo, albinism, birth marks, burns, and more.
"There's not a lot of reflection out there as far as various medical and skin conditions, and that's where the ideas came from for the vitiligo, albinism, and so on," Kay said in an interview with Cosmopolitan.com. "The possibilities with these dolls are endless because there's so much diversity in the world."
