The First Touchscreen Smartphone – IBM Simon

With the continuing advancement of our technology today, it is very important for us to learn the history or beginning of Smartphone. Of course, the most popular smart Phone units in the world are those with touch screen features.

Although there are different inventive mobile phones before, the first touch-screen phone is the Ibm Simon created and designed by the International Business Machine Corp. (IBM) and presented to the market in August 16, 1994. This is actually popular as the IBM Simon Personal Communicator and after only a year of producing it, the company was able to sell almost 50,000 phones in the United States alone.

Developed with a PDA feature, BellSouth Corporation is also responsible in refining this particular telecom device before releasing it to the public in 1994. Just the like the innovative Smartphone units today, the IBM Simon has the capacity to make outgoing calls and receive incoming phone calls, send text messages as well as emails.

This device also has included apps such as calculator, calendar, phone book, notepad, timer, clock and more.  Unfortunately, the company discontinued producing it on February 1995.
