PadMan Review: Compromised With Writing But Akshay Is Entertaining

The much awaited movie, Padman is released today and according to the initial reports people are accepting it with open arms. In PadMan, Akshay plays Lakshmikant Chauhan, a school drop-out who works as a mechanic and has just got married to Gayatri, played by Radhika Apte.

Lakshmikant aka Akshay is very sensitive towards women’s problems

The film is all about Lakshmi’s fight with the society, his family and even his wife in order to ensure women start using hygienic alternatives when they are menstruating. Lakshmi’s main aim to invent a low-cost production system for sanitary napkins as he saw his wife using dirty, unhygienic home-made cloth pads during her periods.

Some moments in the film are very touchy, one such is when Lakshmi tried to convince his sisters and mother to use sanitary pad instead of dirty cloth.

Overall, PadMan is enjoyable and meaningful. Kumar and Apte deliver engaging performances.

Meanwhile, the silly contrivance of a romance between Sonam Kapoor and Akshay Kumar is hurriedly forced into the narrative.
