These Are The Top 10 Indian Railway Stations With Beautiful And Impressive Architecture

It looks like a building of some British India time. It is the largest railway station in Kerala in terms of passenger movement and an important rail hub in Southern Railway.

8) Vijayawada Junction – Andhra Pradesh

It was constructed in the year 1888. Vijayawada station has the standard station layout with a perfect traction inside the station.

7) Kanpur Central – Uttar Pradesh

The present station was built in 1928. Though the imposing building was completed in 1930. The building’s construction is inspired by Lucknow’s magnificent Lucknow Charbagh railway station building which was built by the British in 1914.

6) Surat Railway Station – Gujarat

The railway station was built in 1860. In early 2016, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation rated the facility the best large station in India based on cleanliness.

5) Chennai Central – Tamil Nadu

The 142-year-old building of the railway station is one of the most prominent landmarks of Chennai. It was designed by architect George Harding.

4) Howrah Junction – West Bengal

The British architect Halsey Ricardo designed the station. It was opened on December 1, 1905. It has an impressive architecture.

3) Lucknow Charbagh – Uttar Pradesh

The station was built in 1926. The building was inspired from the domes and minarets of Mughal architectural design. The building constructed in red brick has a frontage of long verandahs adorned with Mughal arches.

2) Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus – Maharashtra

It is formerly known as Victoria Terminus. It is a historic railway station and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Architect Frederick William Stevens designed this building according to the concept of Victorian Italianate Gothic Revival architecture. The station was built in 1887 in the Bori Bunder area of Mumbai to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria.

1) Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra – Jammu & Kashmir

The newest of all, this railway station has just opened 3 years ago in 2014. The building is leveraged with a modern architectural design.
