Fear Of Losing The Election? Modi Government Will Not Disclose Data On Unemployed And Poor Before 2019

If the article which is published in the National Herald is to be believed, Modi Government will not disclose the data on poor and unemployed in the country from 2014 to 2019. The central government has taken this step and the country will not have data on the poor till next general elections, 2019.

Interestingly, in 2019, there will be no reports to compare the data of the present with those of the past and projected future figures.

The Enormous Increase In Unemployment And Poverty

Between March 1, 2014, and July 15, 2015, India suffered 1.5 crore job cuts as per reported by the Ministry of Labour. Also, an assessment has been carried out by Centre for Monitoring India Economy (CMIE), according to which in the first 4 months of 2017, the country witnessed the loss of 15 lakh jobs.

Moreover, the CII, FICCI and All India Manufacturing Association (AIMA) have admitted that there is a huge decrease in the job market. The result of the employment survey (2015-16) which was conducted by the National Sample Survey, were not released by the government.

What About Data Related To Poverty?

The Rangarajan Committee had presented its report on Poverty line to Prime Minister Narendra Modi but the report was neither presented in parliament nor to the public. Meanwhile, India has only the poverty data which was released by the Tendulkar Committee and the Rangarajan Committee already disagreed with it because it had included less number of people in its survey which was not accurate.

Associate Professor at the Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, Himanshu said: “The economy is badly out of breath, is in deep crisis. But the government is trying to deliberately blot out data related to poverty and unemployment. While they should have done quite the opposite as the UPA-1 had done.”
