Self-styled spiritual guru Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh or Guru Ram Rahim has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the rape of two women followers. He was sentenced to a jail in Haryana’s Rohtak by Judge Jagdeep Singh. Thousands of soldiers from para military forces and Army are guarding the prison. Civilians are restricted within 10 km of the prison. Ram Rahim was convicted in the rape case on August 25 and was sent to Rohtak’s district jail.
Authorities are on high alert in Punjab and Haryana, as the Dera Sacha Sauda chief’s followers went on the rampage that left 38 dead after his conviction of Friday.
50 years old Guru Ram Rahim is Dera Sacha Sauda leader who was found guilty in the 15-year-old case. Within minutes of the verdict, his followers ran riot and clashed with security forces, leaving 38 people dead and 250 injured. The session of the court lasted for 1 hour. During the hearing, there were 8 people presented in the room. The time when the punishment of Guru Ram Rahim was announced he started crying, as per the reports.
After getting convicted in a rape case, a series of dreadful cases against the Guru Ram Rahim have come to light. Including raping of the female disciples, making 400 sadhus impotent and murder.
