Moxie Rocks!

Hello there!

Did you know that over a million girls in Undeveloped Countries, such as Uganda, miss about 20% of the School year due to lack of feminine products for menstruation?

It’s a sad fact, but  it’s true. Girls in undeveloped countries are so deprived of these hygiene products that they are forced to use newspaper, rags or leaves to keep clean whilst on their periods. This is embarrassing for the girls, may (and often does) lead to infection, and whilst some girls are taking time off school, some others drop out completely.

So many of us girls take Pads and tampons for granted – I mean, we need them, but get embarrassed when one drops out of our purse. These girls would love to have the accurate products that fit their needs. Think about this: The times when you got your period, unexpectedly, in public or at school – and didn’t have a tampon/pad. These Ugandan girls feel like that every month. They get very embarrassed, and usually take the week off school to save themselves from the humiliation.

I was shopping to buy pads one day, and I came across a very pretty pink striped box with ‘Moxie’ written on it. Of course, they were pads. I asked my mum if I could get the pretty-boxed pads, and we bought it – but only after what we saw on the back of the package…

We were willing to pay a little bit of extra money after we saw that they were running a ‘Pads For Pads’ campaign. Basically, the program  a year’s supply of menstruation hygiene products goes out to each girl, curbing the rates of school absenteeism. The program also employs women into the growth of AFRIpad, the company that makes and distributes reusable pads to the girls. It doesn’t stop there – the program also supports the teaching of sex education and reproductive health.

I really think this brand is contributing to a worthy cause, and I buy their products every month. It’s definitely worth the money, because you get a tin to keep the tampons in (and one sold separately for the pads) and a bracelet made by a Ugandan girl as a thank you:). Hopefully, one day, this will go worldwide, and every woman gets the feminine products she needs.

I hope these beautiful Ugandan girls go to school every day, and expand their minds to a range of learning resources, and that they get do do exactly what they want in life.

See ya later,
