Producer Sahil Mirchandani is Hardly the ‘Last One Laughing’ During Hilarious Shoot for Hit Series

As an internationally sought-after film producer, Sahil Mirchandani knows what it takes to be at the top of his game. This Canadian says that producing requires intuition, foresight, constant planning ahead, anticipating problems before they occur, people management, client management, intense multitasking, and enduring long work hours. It can be a grueling job if you aren’t passionate about your work, but if you are, it is immensely rewarding.

Mirchandani’s love for his craft can be seen in everything he does. His recent work includes Tate McRae’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon performance of hit chart-topping song “You Broke Me First” which has amassed over 1.4 million views on YouTube, an inspiring commercial for Nike’s “Never Done” Summer 2022 women’s campaign starring four Canadian athletes, and continuing building on his own production company Sahil Mirchandani Productions, just to name a small few. He is constantly on the go and often juggling many projects at once, but his passion always drives him to success.

Mirchandani is also no stranger to working with iconic talent, including Juno award-winning musician Tyler Shaw, movie star Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, The Da Vinci Code), and iconic Canadian comedians for the promotional shoot of Last One Laughing: Canada. The shoot starred Emmy award-winning actor Jay Baruchel and featured famous comedians Tom Green, Colin Mochrie, Andrew Phung, Caroline Rhea, and Mae Martin. The show features ten Canadian comedians who compete to make each other laugh, while not laughing themselves; the comedian who doesn’t break a smile wins $100,000 for the charity of their choice. With so many hilarious stars on one set, working on the shoot was a highlight for Mirchandani.

“I enjoyed working on such a large-scale project with so many celebrity actors, and executing a successful gallery shoot with an interesting creative concept. I was excited to see such a large and complex set build come to life, and watch the actors interact with the set that we built for this key art shoot,” said Mirchandani.

Mirchandani was the producer for the shoot, responsible for taking the ideas in the creative and bringing them to life. This was an immense task with no room for error, as everything needed to be seamless when bringing in 11 celebrities with one day of shooting. Mirchandani had to ensure all prep elements front of house and back of house were planned out and locked in well in advance, constantly communicating between the show’s crew and the shoot’s crew to ensure continuity between the two. The shoot needed to reflect the atmosphere of the show to successfully promote it and get people watching, and Mirchandani made sure everything was in place to do so.

“This was an ambitious creative with many different versions of the creative concept to feature each individual comedian on the show, so seeing the different renditions of this art on all sorts of physical media was really amazing,” he said.

The promotional material Mirchandani’s team shot was featured around Toronto, across social media, and on Prime Video’s website and mobile app. It proved immensely effective, as Last One Laughing: Canada was watched by millions across the country and garnered positive reviews by critics and media.
