Morning Roundup: TV, Movie and Gaming News – April 30th 2017

This Sunday, the world of entertainment has seen some pretty major new stories break. From hacking to smashed records, Two Honest Guy rounds up the biggest headlines of the day.

Orange is the New Black Leaked

A hacker, going by the name The Dark Overlord (what a badass…) recently took Netflix to ransom over Orange is the New Black. The latest season, season 5, was due to be broadcast by the streaming service on June 9th.

The Dark Overlord somehow managed to hack into Netflix’s mainframe, archive, underground vault, or wherever they keep their upcoming shows and stole copies of the 13 episode long series.

They then threatened to release the show if their financial demands were not met. Netflix did not disclose the amount requested, but it was probably more than a tenner. Rightly so, Netflix did not capitulate to the Overlord and, true to his/her world, they released the files.

Episodes 2-10 of Orange is the New Black are now available on the internet, with The Dark Overlord threatening to do the same for a number of other shows they claim to have nabbed as well.

Kevin Feige Confirms Stan Lee is the Watcher

In the comic book Universe, The Watchers are an advanced race of beings that spend their time living amongst less-evolved species, documenting their progress — watching.

It has long been theorised that Stan Lee, who appears in every single Marvel film as a cameo, is, in fact, a Watcher. It would make sense, Stan Lee has cropped up in many strange places, always with the same crotchety old-man appearance.

Kevin Feige, some might say the Watcher of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has now confirmed this fan theory. Stan Lee (spoilers) appears in a post-credit scene of Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2 talking to The Watchers and Feige has since come out to say that the reasoning behind this is because he is actually one of them.

Feige is quoted as saying: “we thought it would be fun to put that in there because that really says, so wait a minute, he’s this same character who’s popped up in all these films”.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Smashes Records

Mario Kart 8 has only been out for only a few days, yet it is already Amazon’s best-selling game of the year.

Despite massive releases in 2017, such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario has caught a ride on Bullet Bill and blasted through their sales in a matter of hours.

What is absolutely insane about this fact is that Mario Kart 8 is just a re-released version of the Wii U title which is now 3-years old.

This is testament not only to fans love of Mario, suggesting Odyssey is going to be perhaps the biggest release of the year, but also how few people actually bought a Wii U in the first place.
