The Trip to England: Day 2 – *Sarcatically* WOW

Photo cred: My wonderful and amazing mother.

Day Two: Journal Entry Begun 5:06 PM EST. 22:07 London time. December 20, 2017

So after I left ya’ll in the hotel, we went to the airport to check our bags, AGAIN. We wait for about forty-five minutes until ONE employee arrives, and begins to check us in. During our wait, our entire passenger list for the Plane, and a whole another list of passengers for another flight assembled for checking.

While we were waiting for the airline to check us in, my sister and I had a conversation with three Deaf people as we waited in line. They were super nice and asked us if we knew ASL, we said we were learning, and one of them introduced himself. I believe his name was Chris… but I cannot be sure. It started with a C and ended with an S. SOO, pretty safe assumption besides he had a sign name and I could remember that one. Let me tell you, it’s one thing to practice a language, but another to speak it to those who are fluent.

We also met a college student who was backpacking across Europe. He also said he belonged to an organization called the couch surfers. He opened his home to people visiting country free of charge he goes over to their homes free of charge and makes his was around visiting these people. He said that it was primarily to promote the knowledge of other cultures because you get to see these people in their homes and get a different aspect than you would normally get in a hotel. It sounded an interesting concept, not that I would want to do it alone like him.

So we finally get checked and get over to Security, when we’re herded into a different line by security. This isn’t just my family, this is all of the people who are flying with this airline. So we wait in this line for an hour. No one new is getting checked in, no one is going through security. The airline’s computer thought that it was the seventeenth when it was the eighteenth and the airline employees didn’t know what to do about it. We were frozen between checking and security like limbo. Anyway. We wait another twenty minutes after they solve the problem to get our boarding passes, thankfully the knew that we (as in us with the faulty passes probably equaling about thirty people or less.) were given priority to get our passes.

We get through security. We get to the terminal. We eat half of our lunch. We board the plane. With the person escorted by security AGAIN on our plane, probably having to spend the night in jail.

We finally get on the plane, wait another hour to take off, and we’re in the air. We’re handed these little snack trays and free water. NOTE: The water and these snacks aren’t free usually but because they inconvenienced us by over twenty-four hours they felt it was right. It had a package of two medium-sized butter crackers, a white cheese spread, two raspberry shortbread cookies, and a package of almonds. It was delightful.

I was angry at the beginning of the trip because we paid for extra legroom and bigger seats. They rearranged everyone so that some random schmuck was sitting in seats he/she probably didn’t pay for. I am almost six feet tall and a chunky person. That was not pleasant. I wouldn’t be so angry if I thought that this was the way it should be and didn’t know what those wonderful seats felt like but I had at in those seats for an hour before getting off.

Anyway, we get off the plane in Iceland and boom the smell of a cheese danish hits me. It was wonderful. I went to the restroom while my mom waited in line to get boarding passes, and you could have gotten lost in that bathroom.

So we wait about a half-hour, and then realize that the company lied to get us to Iceland for more than an hour. They lied and said our connecting flight was only an hour wait, they gave us a number and junk but no boarding pass digitally or physically.

WE HAD TO WAIT TWELVE HOURS TO GET ON THE NEXT PLANE.

That’s where I leave you because in Iceland it was 5 hours later than home (EST). Also…it was kind of trippy to be in Tomorrow/Tuesday five hours earlier than my family and best friends…LET DAY THREE BEGIN….(to be posted ASAP, probably within an hour.)

Journal entry terminated at 5:49 EST, 22:59 London Time.
