Movie Review: “Happy Bhag Jayegi” but movie brings happiness to all

Happy Bhag Jayegi Movie Review

Star Cast: Abhay Deol (Bilal), Diana Penty (Happy), Jimmy Shergill (Bagga), Ali Fazal (Guddu)

Director : Mudassar Aziz

The movie is essentially the story of ‘Happy’ a runaway bride-to-be, a neck deep lover who is unaffected, full of life, gutsy person. A typical Punjabi lass who is energetic jumps off floors, carefree and a fighter longing to meet and marry his only love Guddu. A hothead (complete opposite to her nick-name), a self-dependent girl who comes up with own solutions (mostly irrational ones) to problems.

But the series of confusion and chaos begins as soon as she lands in Bilal’s house away from Amritsar, Bagga, and Guddu.

Happy Bhag Jayegi Movie Review

It is a cross-cultural comedy that helped maintain a soft grin throughout. There were few moments that triggered hearty laughter as well.

Mudassar Aziz brought the element that the two nations can be friendly, and stay smilingly with one another. Just show the warmth, heartfelt gesture and you’ll notice that we are all same within (Only misguided and influenced by some statements).

It is in Lahore (Pakistan) that Ex-Governor Javed Ahmed has big dreams for his son. He sees the potential in him to be a sound politician. And demands the same as he has the capability to ‘change the history of Pakistan’. But a girl named ‘Happy’ has come to his house in a courier box, god-knows-how and brings with her chaos.

Bilal wants to get rid of the problem, understands her side of the story and decides to get Guddu and Happy married. But with Bagga around in Amritsar, it is not going to be an easy way out for him. Bilal wants to get things sorted, and in his pursuit faces opposite situations. His love life got affected in the way too.

What all chaos continued brought the awaited smiles and laughs on the face.

Delights:

Diana Penty as Happy (the protagonist) did justice to her role of a verbose, playful, carefree, name calling Punjabi rebellious girl (Gave tough time to goons even!). She is infectious, lovable and enchants everyone who meets and spends time with her.

Abhay acted well as the suave, sophisticated, up-and-coming politician of tomorrow -Bilal. Showed his complete dedication to helping Happy (liked her as the world loves actress Madhubala) escape out. The moments of his introspection while helping Happy and seeing her mantra of living life.

Jimmy Shergill as Bagga’s used unique, witty Punjabi tone, showed know-how of English language. He acted well as the politician cum goon (opportunist one) who wanted to marry Happy to save his honor.

Ali Fazal’s innocence of Guddu, his strong and sincere love for Happy charmed. He played the role very subtly.

ASP Usman Afridi’s way of speaking the dialogues in pure Urdu. His longing to have each renowned politician, celebrity to be born in Pakistan.

The soft and soulful music that rightly enhanced the scenes.

Cross-border mindset, the fear among people that can be easily won over and achieved not with hatred but only LOVE.

Disappointments:

The overplayed and forced story, its enactment at certain places. And the predictable twists and turns.

The only constant factor in the movie was Happy running away (obviously had to!) Whether she was kidnapped or was again taken to safety, escaping policemen, or after marriage. It was confirmed that ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’.

The movie could have been made more crisp and tight instead of filling it with enforced laughter scenes.

With all said and done, if you want to have light-head, and some smiles then make your weekend a happy one while watching ‘Happy Bhag Jayegi’ the cross-border romedy.
