Dorothy, so annoying and yet so beguiling. Her ruby slippers protected her from all evil and took her anywhere she wanted to go.
Recently, shoes have undergone a huge cultural shift. I blame Carrie in Sex and the City, now everyone knows their Jimmy Choos from their Louboutins. Still, even though I must align myself with the general populace on this (I've been a red shoe lover since I supposedly pushed over a little girl when I was out shopping. I was 3 years old, and the girl had MY shoes on), I absolutely love shoes. My current favourites are purple Mary-Janes from Rebecca Taylor (if you're askin'!!)
If you love The Wizard of Oz (I'm not a musical freak, but this is different), then you should read Salman Rushdie's analysis of it (BFI). Also, you should try playing Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon while you are watching it. Apparently, it fits perfectly. Something to think about on a rainy day.
