Echo Park In The 1950s

Echo Park, near Dodger Stadium and downtown Los Angeles. The park’s pond began as a catch-basin in the 1860s. A twenty foot dam across the canyon where the park now lies was installed in 1868. In 1895 the city officially dredged the area.

This Postcard is a photograph of Burton Frasher, Sr. He is known as one of the most prolific photographers of the Southwest although his name is not widely known to the public. He was the official photographer for the Los Angeles County Fair for many years. By 1948 he sold 3,500,000 postcards a year. He died in 1955. He moved to Pomona in 1920. The typography suggests this is one of his late works. My guess is late 1940s or 1950s.

This postcard is in pristine condition. I paid only $3.00 for it at some point in the distant past.
