Jereny Menez endured the debut from hell for Bordeaux on Wednesday night after sustaining a sickening injury.
Debuts to forget normally involve a comical own goal or a major defensive slip up, but Menez's first outing for his new club will have a lasting impact on his life - after having his EAR ripped off.
Menez, who has only joined Bordeaux from AC Milan two days earlier, lost part of his right ear after an inconspicuous tangle with Lorient's Didier Ndong.
Ndong accidentally stood on the head of grounded Menez, lodging his stud into the ear of the 29-year-old and causing the freak injury.
Devastated midfielder Ndong apologised following the incident after finding out that Menez was having to undergo emergency surgery.
"I offer my apologies to Jeremy Menez and Bordeaux," he said.
"I give him my full support for the coming days and hope to see him very quickly on the lawns of Ligue 1."
