Granted as women professionals, mothers,  and women business owners, we will definitely experience anxiety from time to time.

But…anxiety does not have to be a constant in your life. Allowing it to be can actually be detrimental not just to your quality of life, but to your health, as well. If you are experiencing anxiety, especially constant anxiety, it’s time to take control of your life. These home remedies for anxiety can help you reduce stress and anxiety and live a happier, healthier life.

Breathe in Lavender

Lavender has amazing calming benefits. If you’ve ever looked at aromatherapy oils or products as a treatment for stress, you have probably noticed that most of the oil mixtures that are supposed to have calming benefits are blended with lavender. This is because the scent of lavender has a very real calming effect on the body.  I am a strong advocate of lavender essential oil, in fact, I even carry something lavender scented with me to calm myself when I start to feel anxious.

I also use  an oil diffuser to scent my home with lavender, especially my bedroom. That makes it supremely calming and inviting space. Lavender-scented candles are another great alternative. Actually growing lavender in your yard can also be a great way to always have the calming scent of this plant on hand when you start to feel anxious.

Drink Chamomile Tea

Chamomile tea has long been one of the best home remedies for anxiety. While most people only drink Chamomile Tea when they are trying to get to sleep, it actually has a range of other uses that make it a must-have for anyone who experiences anxiety. When you feel worry and stress coming on, drinking a cup of chamomile tea will soothe the body and the mind.

Another important reason for drinking chamomile tea is that it is a natural anti-inflammatory, which means that it will actually ease any physical stress that you are feeling. This is great for people with inflammation-related illnesses, for those who carry their stress physically, and for those who want an effective way to battle inflammation in their lives.

On top of this benefit, this type of tea can also have a calming effective on the mind. The warm, delicately-flavored tea can comfort the mind. I’ve often made myself a cup of chamomile tea at 2 A.M in the morning when the worries and stresses of the day kept me awake at night. It’s works wonders to calm my mind and beat insomnia.

Boost Your Daily Intake of Omega-3s

If you are not getting enough Omega-3s, you are probably not equipped to deal with the stress life throws at you daily as a women professional. Any other home remedies for anxiety should be complemented with making sure you are getting enough omega-3s.

When your body does not have the nutrients it needs in order to process the stress it is experiencing (whether that stress is physical or whether it is generated by the mind), that anxiety can have a snowball effect, creating more and more stress until your system simply shuts down.

Omega-3s don’t just keep you healthy, they also help your body process the stress it experiences. Every opportunity you have to provide your body with help in this regard, you should take it.

Get out into the Sunlight

Staying inside all day, whether you are in a busy office or are simply trying to run your home, can be very bad for someone with anxiety. The best home remedies for anxiety are also sometimes the simplest, especially in this case.

If you are not getting enough sunlight, it’s time to get outside and soak it in. While too much sunlight can be damaging, getting at least a little sunlight every day will boost your mood, trigger your body to produce much needed vitamin D, and will ease worry and pain.

Sunlight has almost magical effects on the body. There’s a reason that we sleep during the night and are active during the day. We need sunlight in order to be healthy and happy, so make sure that you get enough during your day. Exercising in the morning, as the sun is coming up, for example, is a great way to do this.

Get at Least 20 Minutes of Exercise Daily

Many women professionals believe they are too busy, too out of shape, or too tired to exercise. The truth is that exercise should be a part of every woman’s day. It’s essential to staying healthy and to battling anxiety. Like getting out into the sunlight, exercising is one of the best simple home remedies for anxiety.

You don’t have to train to run a marathon. Get outside and walk, dance, swim, take a Zumba class, go for a bike ride, jump on a trampoline, play Frisbee with the kids—anything that gets you up and your blood pumping. It’ll be great for your body and great for your anxiety levels.
