One of the few positives of having diabetes (type one or two) is that you can participate in the wonderful bike rides across the country, called the “Tour de Cure”. These are rides of all distances that people raise money and then ride to find a cure for type one diabetes, and to help support those with type two! There is however, one that is close to my heart: the Tour De Cure, New England Classic 150 or 550 miles. Yes 550 is not a typo. It is pretty awesome though! This ride goes through the New England states (MA, NH, ME, VT) and starts in Massachusets. I started out doing the 150 Mile Ride on a tandem with my dad, and then went to the 550 still on the tandem. Then, this past year was the big one. I did 550 miles on my own. The 550 mile ride is amazing! It lasts for 7 days (long days) and goes along the coasts of Maine, through the country side of Vermont, and past unique landmarks throughout New England. You make friends that are truly remarkable and you prove to yourself that anything is possible. I HIGHLY recommend this ride!
Along with this ride, I was awarded the “class act” award, presented by the “7 News”. I was also featured on the news station! Here’s the link and feel free to check it out! I hope it inspires you to keep going and keep being awesome!
