A poem of mine was published last year in the University of Kentucky’s Shale Literary Journal and I thought I would share it. (abridged)
Jaded- inspired by conversations over the years.
They say it will be beautiful
hearing the pitter-patter of tiny feet,
watching the pendulum swing of carefree drool
and praying to God for 18 years of my life to be more than a ritual.
They say it will be miraculous
pushing a watermelon out of a finger hut.
They tell me I will change my mind,
but that’s only going to happen if
the infant speaks English
straight out of the womb.
