Justice League Casts J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon

The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that Oscar winner J.K. Simmons has been cast as Commissioner James Gordon in the upcoming Justice League film. Simmons will be joining actors Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller, and Ray Fisher in the upcoming film.

Simmons is no stranger to playing comic book characters, having famously played Spider-Man’s Daily Bugle boss J. J. Jameson in the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, and also reprised the role for multiple Marvel animated series and video games. Simmons has made several apearances in a numeber of films over the past years, most notably Contraband (2012), Whiplash (2013), Terminator Genisys (2015), Kung Fu Panda 3 (2016) and Zootopia (2016).

Gary Oldman was the last actor to portray the role of Commissioner James Gordon on the big screen, starring in Christopher Nolan‘s Dark Knight Trilogy. Meanwhile, on the small screen, Ben McKenzie stars as a young James Gordon in Fox’s Gotham Batman prequel which tells the early roots of Gordon, numerous villains and, of course, Bruce Wayne.

Zack Synder‘s Justice League – Part 1  will start production around mid-April and it arrive in theaters on November 17, 2017.
