Multiple reports claim that Charlize Theron (Mad Max: Fury Road) is in early talks to star as the main villain in F. Gary Gray’s Fast 8.
Whilst she is in very early talks, Universal is supposedly very keen to attack Charlize Theron to the project. However, it is unclear whether her villain will have a tie to the Shaws (portrayed by Jason Statham and Luke Evans).
If Universal bags Charlize Theron this is a huge get. The series has supplemented its hammy cast with big stars with huge draws. Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell and Jason Statham have all had roles and now Theron, who played Furiosa in Mad Max: Fury Road, may just be the Furious to the Fast 8.
It is never a mistake to add talent. Theron is one of the most consistent female performers out there and she can walk into any film/franchise if she wants.
And whilst some may think she is above films like this, remember that she played the villain in Snow White and the Huntsman. She isn’t above this sort of thing.
And these days, there is much about the Fast and Furious franchise with the last instalment breaking box office records and grossing over $1.5 billion worldwide.
Now, make no mistake, Charlize Theron has not joined Fast 8 just yet. Scheduling conflicts and contract disputes may ultimately scupper the deal. But the notion of a badass female villain plaguing the team is tantalising. And this is coming from a viewer who finds the series laughable.
Fast 8 will hit theatres on 14th April 2017.
