Thank you for stopping in!
My name is Tom Hoffman. I am a fiction writer — currently finishing up the supernatural thriller novel, The Ridge.
While this isn’t the only major project I am working on at the moment, a lot of the posts that follow will pertain to the final stages of composing a novel, the writing process and marketing the finished product — the book. Which will be on sale (or, at least, available for order) wherever books are sold.
The Ridge is the culmination of ten years worth of personal study in the creative writing process. Much of it on my own. Parts of it supported by gracious mentors. All of it taxing the sanity.
The manuscript itself has been in various stages of composition — or de-comp, smells like — over the last ten years or so.
Granted there was a lot of life in those years.
If I had to give myself a fair estimate, bare minimum, I would say I was writing 20% of that time. That’s honest enough.
Now, if I consider the Pareto Principle (or the “80/20 Rule”) as any measure, then what I have written accounts for at least 80% of the output I enjoy today.
20% makes up a concentration of two years worth of practical study. That’s the equivalent of an associate’s degree down at the junior college.
This gives you an idea about the level of expertise I am working with.
What I end up with may not be the next Great American Novel — which can only be achieved by accident to begin with. No. The payoff I get from this informal education comes after reaching that ever approaching, “The End” part of the novel.
That’s the part where all the loose ends have finally come together — everyone gets what they want (or at least what they deserve) — finding themselves significantly different, changed for the experience — the part of the novel that leaves the aftertaste of having just read a good story.
That’s the goal. That is what I am working to bring to you — readers of this blog, and whoever else would like to come along.
I’ll have more information regarding The Ridge, as well as its accompanying sales copy once the editorial process begins.
You can expect to find the usual marketing suspects — jacket bios, synopsis, release date and other details — once “The End” has occurred.
I am excited for The Ridge, and hope — if you decide to give it a read — that you will enjoy the story, and know that I wrote it with that end in mind.
