Sunderland have sacked Adam Johnson tonight after the winger pleaded guilty to child sex offences.
Adam Johnson admitted to engaging in Sexual Activity with a child and child grooming at a court hearing in Bradford yesterday.
"In light of Adam Johnson's Guilty Pleas, the club has today terminated his contract with immediate effect," the club said in a brief statement.
"The club will make no further comment."
The news comes just hours after sportswear giant Adidas terminated its contract with Johnson.
A statement said:
“Adidas can confirm that it has terminated its contract with footballer Adam Johnson with immediate effect.
"This follows his guilty pleas entered earlier this week. Johnson, 28, continues to deny two further counts of Sexual activity with the same child and a trial will go ahead on Friday.
