China has hired World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi to head its national football team.
The national football association officially announced the appointment of 68-year-old Lippi on Saturday.
Marcelo Lippi guided Italy to World Cup glory in 2006 when his side edged out France on penalties after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
It is the latest move by China in a national push to become a force in world football.
Lippi replaces Gao Hongbo, who resigned after China's October 11 loss to Uzbekistan.
