President Mahama was addressing in the media that “Accounting to the people tour.” “We have some Political Parties that have a tradition of haranguing and simply harassing the Commission and that I suppose that has got to stop.”
He described that the some Political parties including the opposition New patriotic Party have over the months mounted pressure on the chairperson of Electoral Commission to implement a number of the reforms counseled by the Supreme Court for the coming general elections credible and clear.
However, President Mahama has thought that the most effective platform to urge the problems addressed is at the inter-Party advisory Committee (IPAC) conferences. On the ongoing limited elector registration exercise, President Mahama urged the political parties to make sure that they monitor the method and additionally facilitate the commission remove ghost names from the register.
Moreover, he described that “They [EC] are planning to do the limited registration and after that the register is going to be exhibited and therefore the point is, each political party at the branch level should take their copy of the exhibited register and assist the Electoral Commission to remove the names of dead people from the register.
President Mahama has described that this can be the most effective manner that we will do now and that we have IPAC, all concerns that parties have they’re supposed to take to IPAC. You go to IPAC, you discuss the problem with the electoral commission and therefore the commission takes the consensus of the majority.
He added that if you alone disagree, it should be your wheel or the highway thus then you’re taking your issue from IPAC and come outside and take to the streets in manifestations and everyone that. I don’t think it’s extremely necessary.
