Police arrest thirty youth for killing a ‘witch’

Thirty people have been arrested by the Buipe Police Command for confronting the police and causing cutlass wounds on seventy-five years old woman suspect of witchcraft.

These people were arrested at the palace of the Paramount Chief of Kusawgu Traditional Region on Friday.

The victim, Bintu Mumenatu is a native of Sankpala in the Central Gonja area of the Northern Region.

The Deputy Police Commander at Buipe said, Asp Kwame Boadi, 7 of the suspects on March 31 at about 9:30pm definitely attacked the victim and exposed her to severe beatings whereas she was alone in her house.

One of them was speak to have pulled cutlass and cut her till she was nearly lifeless, and inattentive her.

The Youth said they meted out the terrible act against Bintu because they doubted she was a witch. They claimed she used her magic to cast an influence on the whole youth in the village which has reduced scores of the youth useless.

Kusawgu-Wura on Friday April 1, 2016 called the 7 guys at his palace after her children made a complaint to him, and he gave them over to a team of police officers commanded by ASP Kwame Boadi.

The police in adding, arrested 23 others who tried to avoid the arrest of the 7 guys.

ASP Kwame Boadi told the media, that the police were confronted by the 23 youth who damaged a police vehicle and tore the uniforms of some policemen.

All the Thirty Youth are presently in the custody of the Buipe Police and will be charged for tried murder and obstructing justice.
