Sanders: 'We do have a path to victory'

Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders tells CBS’s “Face the Nation” that he has “a path to victory.”

STORY: Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders told CBS’s “Face the Nation” on Sunday (February 28) that he has “a path to victory” in the race to become the Democratic presidential nominee.

“I think we do have a path to victory,” he said. “Now I won’t tell you that we didn’t get beaten and beaten very badly yesterday in South Carolina. I congratulate Secretary Clinton on her victory. I think for us that is about as bad as it’s going to get.”

Sanders said his campaign would have a chance on “Super Tuesday” when 11 states hold Democratic nominating contests with more than 800 delegates up for grabs. “I think we’re going to win a very good share of those delegates,” he said.

Sanders, who has energized the party’s liberal wing and brought young people to the polls by attacking income inequality and Wall Street excess, needs a breakthrough win in a key state in the next few weeks to keep his hopes alive.

Hundreds of delegates are at stake in Tuesday’s contests — a day that could be a critical turning point for candidates in both parties.

Nominations are contingent on winning a majority of the votes by the delegates sent to the party conventions in July.
