1 January, 2016 onwards a change has been brought stating mandatory quoting of PAN and it has been further enlarged. A piece of information regarding forms being digitized was also provided stating that form number 15G and 15H are now digitized and can be digitally filed with the tax deductors. It was informed that the department intends to correspond with people on e-mail and only call them to office when absolutely essential.
A total of 16 lakh cases were filed this year but only 25,439 are worked upon, making the basic purpose of increasing tax base unfulfilled.
