The Trouble With Sinking Lips & Cheeks: Dr Asim Mahmood Answers your Dental Dilemmas
As you get older, your skin will start to lose elasticity. This can result in the skin starting to wrinkle, generally around the neck and the mouth area in the face, which appears like it’s Sinking in. A change in appearance is particularly worrying for some people, often resorting to expensive cosmetic surgeries. However, there are other, non-surgical solutions such as dermal fillers and Botox for facial aesthetic treatments that are increasingly becoming more popular as they are less invasive, less time-consuming and less expensive.
Botox can be injected into the skin to reduce moderate to severe brow and frown lines between the eyes, and will last around 4 – 6 months.
Dermal fillers can be injected into lips and crow’s feet lines to give the skin a plumper, fuller look and will generally last around 6 – 12 months.
The sinking appearance can also be caused by missing teeth – which means less support for lips. You can replace missing teeth with three options:
- Dentures: a removable appliance
- Bridge: the teeth on either side of a gap with support a crown and bridge the gap
- Dental Implants: an artificial root that look and feel like real teeth.
Many salons and clinics offer such treatments, but you would need to be in the best possible hands if you decide to go ahead with any treatments. Make sure to do plenty of research to make sure you will be treated in a safe and legal place by a qualified professional.
