Diet Habits That Are Damaging Your Hair

Have you ever wondered why your Hair is so greasy sometimes, or dry at others, or why your hair seems to have split ends much more often than you’d like or think was possible? As weird as it might sound, the food that you’re eating and your dietary habits have a huge impact on the outcome of your hair everyday. Mostly your hair, but it actually really affects the stabilization and growth of your fingernails and toe nails as well. To have the most healthy hair all around, you need to make sure that your diet includes the necessary amounts of vitamins, minerals, and healthy aspects that all bodies need to be functioning correctly on a regular basis.

A major lack of protein. So that means all of your vegetarians and vegans out there, you’re going to have to find a decent substitute for protein in order for your hair and nails to be as strong and healthy as you’d like them to be. They’re literally made out of protein, so that’s a bit of a vital thing to have in your diet at all times for them to be growing. Especially if you’re wondering why your hair isn’t growing as quickly as you want it to be, you might want to start vamping up the amount of protein you’re taking in on a regular basis.

Another lack of something in your diet that would affect the health and strength of your hair and nails would be both zinc and iron. This is again another thing that is packed into those hearty pieces of red meat, as well as vegetables like broccoli and beans. If there comes a point where you don’t think that you’re getting enough zinc and iron into your body on a regular basis, or the foods that are chock full of them aren’t ones that you love that much, there are supplements that you could definitely take in order to boost those levels in your body. Many of them can be picked up at a regular drug store or supermarket, but if it seems like a huge concern to you, there’s always the option of asking your doctor about prescribed supplements instead.

Too much sugar. Yeah, do you see a theme with the whole “too much” thing starting to form with this list? Just like when you have a lot of sugar in your diet it affects your skin negatively, it can easily do the same thing to your hair strength and health. Yet another reason to skip the sugar once in awhile and lower your sugar levels to get your health back on a good track!
An overdose of vitamin A. Okay, maybe that’s a bit more of an overstatement, but still. If you’re taking an overabundance of vitamin A, it can actually lead to hair loss! Crazy, but totally true. Obviously you don’t have to worry about it if you’re just taking a regular multi vitamin, or even if you’re just getting a tiny bit more of a boost of vitamin A in pill or food form – I’m talking more about really high doses.
