It isn't Valentine's Day yet, but the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise is still looking to get viewers in the mood early. This time, things are Fifty Shades Darker, as teased in the sequel's first trailer along with masks, shower sex and some brand new stalkers.
24 hours earlier, the first 20 seconds of the trailer was released, setting up a masquerade ball and masks as the big theme. Now the rest has been posted, as Jamie Dornan's Christian and Dakota Johnson's Anastasia reunite in and out of costume.
While Christian and Ana's BDSM-themed love affair didn't end well by the end of Fifty Shades of Grey, it seems Christian's latest round of stalking and promises has persuaded Ana to "forget the past." However, without any more rules or punishments, and with a more sexually confident Ana reuniting with Christian now, Ana faces obstacles like her new boss, Christian's equally stalkery ex-girlfriend and Kim Basinger instead.
Some things are still the same, such as all the edited down PG-13 sex that trailers will allow, and another new rendition of "Crazy In Love" serving as the soundtrack. Nonetheless, original Fifty Shades novel writer E.L. James now has greater creative control as producer, and with her husband Niall Leonard adapting her story.
If the movie version of Fifty Shades Darker isn't enough, James recently announced plans to rewrite the novel from Christian's point of view, like she did with the original Fifty Shades of Grey last year. She posted excerpts from the new novel version on Sept. 10, in honor of Ana's birthday, while also promising the movie version's first trailer would come soon.
With that promise now fulfilled, Fifty Shades Darker's full and uncensored treatment of the original novel will be released without any disguises on Feb. 10, 2017.
