7 Sitcoms That Had a Huge Cultural Impact in America

I’m English, and I’ve been that way all my life. However, I grew up on a diet of American TV. The A Team, Knight Rider and the Fall Guy were just a few of my favourites, but it was the American sitcom that really captured my imagination.

7. Arrested Development

Arrested Development is perhaps the most cerebral of all the American sitcoms on this list. A great many TV credits in the U.S. still talk about the original run if this show being the best example of sitcom writing the world has ever known.

One of the great things about Arrested Development was the fact that you could watch it several times and still miss little in-jokes, asides and double meanings. No matter how many times you’d watched an episode, there was always something new to find – even if it was a look or an expression. After the show was cancelled in 2006, fans started a campaign to bring it back. The social media campaign became so huge, Netflix decided it would bring back the show for new episodes – with most of the original cast.
