The fame and riches afforded to ALL Premier League players are aspects of the game that few people on the terraces can empathise with. Make no mistake; being a Premier League footballer is a privilege that is all too often taken for granted. And in some instances, playing at the highest level can ruin a young man’s life.
An abundance of adoration, wealth and spare time can be a dangerous combination where young and impressionable footballers are concerned. Time after time, we have witnessed promising players having their heads turned by the trappings of luxury and fame. But every now and then, head turning switches to criminal behaviour – something that led to these Premier League Players spending time behind bars.
7. Ian Wright
Arsenal legend Ian Wright has been one of the most prolific goalscorers to come out of England in the last three decades. But despite a promising career, the Crystal Palace legend couldn’t stay on the right side of the law during his younger days.
After buying two cars, Wright decided to treat himself to two cars. But he somewhat arrogantly decided that he didn’t need to tax or insure either of them. The Former England star was sent to jail for 14 days following a conviction and a failure to pay his fines.
Wright said in an interview with The Guardian:
“The sound of those prison doors closing and the nutters inside taught me: I can’t live my life like this.”
