Movies are often a way for people to escape Reality. To take refuge in a place where the unfathomable is proven possible, where astronomical feats are proven juvenile and where danger knows no bounds. Sometimes however, reality catches up and hazards present during filming, be it off or on screen, take their toll on the actors and Crew, resulting in tragedy.
7. The Dukes of Hazard (1980)
During rehearsal for a high-speed chase scene, Assistant Cameraman Rodney Lee Mitchell was killed when a camera truck lost control on a curve and tumbled over a 6-foot embankment at high speed. Eleven other crew members were injured in the accident. The 3-ton modified pickup truck rolled over Mitchell and another crew member, injuring the latter severely, but not fatally. Mitchell however was not so lucky, and was pronounced dead by the Ventura County firefighters who arrived at the scene shortly after.
