News of a Lethal Weapon TV show was originally met with both concern and joy amongst fans of the original movies. But there is real hope that this adaptation could be a real success after Damon Wayans was cast at Roger Murtaugh.
The TV pilot will be directed by McG and written by Matt Miller. Rumour has it that the show will follow the same formula as the movies. Martin Riggs (not yet cast) will be trying to keep it together after the death of his wife.
Roger Murtaugh will still be ‘too old for this shit’, and he’ll be on the verge of retiring from the force. These two classic movie characters will be thrown together in LA – and chaos will undoubtedly follow.
Wayans’ recruitment will give the TV version of Lethal Weapon some much-needed credibility. Such an iconic movie is very precious to fans, and anyone trying to recreate the magic of Riggs and Murtaugh is on a hiding to nothing from the very beginning. If Fox can recruit a big name to play Riggs, they could have a monster hit on their hands.
There have been several movie to TV adaptations announced in recent months, including TV versions of Rush Hour, Training Day and Taken.
