How To Organise Your Life In 8 Easy Steps

September is almost over, bringing with it a new school year and a seasonal shift in the weather. There is no better time to Organise your life and perform a major declutter of your physical and mental space. To start the new month on a fresh and positive note we compiled 10 steps to help you get organised once and for all.

1. Make A Plan – What do you want to get done and how do you want to go about it? Write down the areas of your life which you’d like to address e.g. home, work, personal development, goals etc. and then you can start working your way down through the list.

2. Clear Out – Start by clearing out one area of your home, and then move onto the next and the next until every room has been tackled. Cut down on any junk you don’t need or items you don’t use anymore. Declutter your wardrobe and donate the items you no longer treasure, soon you’ll be mess free and gaining mental clarity before you know it (tidy house, tidy mind!).

3. Rearrange Your Wardrobe – After you clear out your wardrobe, make life easier for yourself and organise it into different categories. You can arrange it by putting items such as shirts, trousers and t-shirts all together or by occasion such as work, casual, gym or evening attire. Just make sure it makes sense to you and hopefully you will reduce the time you spend in the morning choosing an outfit.

4. Do Chores Daily – The best way to organise your life is to keep on top of chores and household duties and do a bit every day. You don’t have to spend much time, even just a half hour per day, but you can easily wipe down counters, put things away, do some laundry, iron some clothes, whatever needs to be done. This way you won’t have have to spend your weekends playing catch up on all the things you didn’t get around to during the week.

5. Routine – Having a routine in place is very helpful when you want to get organised. Have a rough schedule of how you want your day to go and what you would like to get done in the day. You don’t have to stick rigidly to the plan but knowing what you should be doing at a certain time will keep you focused, increase your productivity and help you to get to bed on time every night.

6. Meal Prep – We all know how hard it is to cook meals in the evening when we get home from work tired and worn out so planning ahead is essential. Meal prep can be as extensive as you like, you can batch cook meals to last you for weeks if you want, just freeze them and they’ll be ready to go. If you bring some into work for your lunch you’ll save money and it will stop you reaching for unhealthy, shop bought options.

7. Don’t Put Things Off – If you really want to get organised, stop making excuses or waiting for the next day to get something done – organise your life now! Whenever you find yourself procrastinating over something, get on it immediately and do what needs to be done. Now is as good a time as any.

8. Be Minimal – Having a lot of material things can unknowingly weigh us down and cause us stress as the more we have the more we have to look after, maintain, and tidy away. Reduce this stress by purchasing fewer, but higher quality items that will stand the test of time. Before committing yourself to buying something, ask yourself if it’s really something you need or if you are just making an impulsive decision.

Those were our organisation tips, whether you are going back to school, college or you just need to get your life together we hope these steps will be of some help!
