Reporting LIVE from JFL Montreal!
Day 2 happened and what a doozy! The afternoon was the Variety’s 10 To Watch cocktail party. We ran into our dear friend James Mullinger. James is here promoting his film, The Comedian’s Guide to Survival. He’s always so charming and supportive. One of the nicest guys you’ll meet in comedy, really.
After Aisha’s come down from that taping, she was whisked away to another taping. This one for Kevin Hart – who by the way, accepted everyone’s pitches at the pitch session earlier in the day. He picked everyone and not just 3. Holy cow! Aisha again did a fantastic job. Her ‘baby dick’ rap closed out her set to big laughs and applause. She’s our newest signee, and we couldn’t be prouder. By the way, Kevin Hart is as short as you think he is. Great guy too, went around shaking everyone’s hand saying hello.
By now it’s close to midnight. I really wanted to try and get into the always-sold-out Roast Battles. Luckily we ran into Festival Queen Zoe Rabnett and Tim Rabnett who was lovely enough to get us on the guest list. Thanks Tim! We watched upstairs of the show on monitors with about 100 other VIPs as K. Trevor Wilson roasted the shit out of 20 year old Olivia Grace. K. Trev is the only Canadian in this show and after his victory the entire audience sang Oh! Canada. Beautiful. Be sure to catch the show when it airs tonight! Good luck to K. Trev in the next few nights for his other battles. Take ‘er home Trev!
And finally, it was party time. I swear, half of Montreal was at that hotel bar last night. Squeezing through the crowd we ran into Emo Phillips. What a sweat heart! Russell Peters was there, Tom Green was there, Blake Griffin was there, Derek Seguin was there… and on and on…
And tonight is the big night…. it’s the Homegrown competition! If our comics keep going the way they’re going, there will be no stopping Mayce Galoni, Keith Pedro, Mike Rita and Nigel Grinstead tonight.
Go get ’em boys!
