Welcome to My Journey. 52 Weeks of Self-Discovery, Week #8

Ever had the crushing weight of something heavy knock you down? That’s how I felt this week. It’s time to take my own advice and implement the 80/20 rule. I’m dropping ghostwriting completely so I can focus on what matters: Fiction and blog writing. Working a day job just doesn’t allow much fluff.

My Lifehack article continued to explode. My agent will be seeking out publishers in early September for my latest book, so I’ll focus on getting at least two more Lifehack articles published to use as a platform to pitch publishers. I filed for an extension of my next Lifehack article, but I already wrote the first draft. I’ll submit it for review in the next few days.

I spent a ridiculous amount of time researching website design and SEO. I’ve decided it’s time to make additional changes to my website. Hi res photos slow down the site, so I need to search for a solution to that problem. I’ll hold back on additional photos until it's solved.

I’m also debating on whether to transition to Squarespace, Wordpress, or hire a professional to tidy up my site. I’ve gotten some quotes, but I need to do more research and decide on the direction of various aspects of the site before I commit to another large change. In the meantime, I’ll focus on a few tweaks to make my site load faster.

For my weekly goals, I did write the rough draft of the article, but I wrote nothing else besides the post (and this one). That’s got to change. I’ll take the advice of one of my commenters and focus on daily goals, then just add them up at the end of the week. I’ll target two pages of fiction per day. That will get my time travel book done in three months, though, I’m hoping to having done sooner.

I completed the audiobook The Millionaire Fastlane by MJ Demarco. I agreed with some but not all of the material. A good read, but some caution is warranted. I took issue with the first section of the book, but the remainder put it in better context.

I met my goal of completed podcasts, and I’ll be interviewed for my own this coming Friday. I’ll provide a link for that episode once it’s available. Still reading the Atlantis Gene. Reading has taken a backseat to research on education, but I still read every day.

I didn’t receive any new business or author contacts this week aside from Twitter. I didn’t go to any new place, aside from a few stores, but I did go hiking yesterday at Koko Head (not the stairs, but the ridge overlooking Hanauma Bay). It was beautiful.
I finished my extra ab exercises, and I’m seeing modest changes in definition.

I tried a new software program, Myspeed. It’s amazing! I held off trying it until I got a new computer, which I did this week. I’m currently on the seven day free trial. It’s $29.99 after that, but I will save time and is well worth it. It allows you to speed up embedded videos to 3x the speed and has smaller increment options. The time I spend watching embedded videos for research makes the software a no brainer. Youtube has an option to speed things up, but not for offsite embedded videos. The only drawback is that that it requires Firefox and there’s no mobile option in the basic version (Premier offers mobile but is 99.99).

I’ve listed my upcoming weekly goals below. If you haven’t started your own journey, I highly recommend it. Life’s too short to let it pass you by.
