Priyanka Chopra completes 10 years in Bollywood

Given that Miss India/World winners rarely go on to win plaudits for their acting abilities, it’s a long way that Priyanka Chopra has come since her Bollywood debut 10 years ago. If she was typecast as somewhat of a glamour queen early on in her career, she has worked hard and proven herself to be one of the most talented and versatile actresses around in Bollywood today.


Though Priyanka’s actual debut was in the Tamil film, Thamizhan opposite Vijay in 2002, it was only in 2003 that she started her Bollywood innings with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy where she played the second lead to Preity Zinta opposite Sunny Deol. It would take her another film, Andaaz which saw her in a glam doll avatar, to come to the notice of the audiences. Priyanka won the Filmfare Best Debutante Award along with Lara Dutta for the film.

The year 2004 saw her appear in a string of flops until she was rescued by Salman Khan-Akshay Kumar starrer, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, where she didn’t have anything much to do, except be wooed by the leading men. But she was not done yet, her bold and confident portrayal of a scheming seductress in Aitraaz confirmed that she was here to stay in Bollywood by winning her the Filmfare Best Villain Award.
