Deadpool – Violence, Action and the 4th Wall! – Review

Tags: movie deadpool

We’ve all been waiting for a damn good Deadpool movie, special after the awful treatment the character got in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but let’s not talk about that one.

Yes we have gone down the origin route of Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds), the story of a former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment, after being told it would be his cure for cancer, but the treatment leaves him with accelerated healing powers, Wade then adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

And what a twisted sense of humour he has, with his one liners, the great way that he breaks the 4th wall (talking to the audience) and the fantastic abilities he has to completely kick ass only the way that Deadpool could do.

This movie is not for the faint of heart, its violent in a bloody comic book way and is an all balls out action movie that really doesn’t give you chance to catch your breath.

With its use of stopping the action by freezing it and then going back to the origin storyline of how Wade became the wise ass costumed character out for vengeance, the film works very well, right from the start of the movie, with the opening credits having the descriptions of the actors and not their names, you just know that you are in the ride of your life for 2 hours.

Ryan Reynolds is perfect as Deadpool and it was such a shame that in the “other” movie they sowed his mouth up, but hey at that time they were keeping the certificate rating down, this time the character just seems to be able to run free with the insults, obscenities and those wise cracks that work brilliantly throughout the movie.

With some rather cheeky references thrown in to Wolverine, Green Lantern and a lovely dig at the X-Men, all done with a lovely dose of sarcastic whit.

Wow, this is such a big house, but it’s only the two of you here. It’s like the studio didn’t have enough money for another X-Men movie. – Deadpool

The supporting cast all well together as well, Ed Skrein is great as Ajax, the scenes with Skrein worked well and you really got the feeling that these two characters really didn’t like each other.

Let’s not forget Wade’s love interest, after all you’ve got to feel the love on Valentine’s Day, Vanessa (played by Morena Baccarin) has a great on-screen chemistry with Reynolds and I’m not just talking about the sex scenes (oh yes this movie has those as well, but all in a 15 certificate comic book style). If you think you recognise Baccarin from somewhere then that would be from the Gotham, where she plays Dr. Leslie Thompkins.

Don’t forget to look out for Generalissimo (Stan Lee), he’s in there with one of his brief cameo’s.

So Deadpool has all out action, violence, blood, sex, swearing and comedy, which make it a brilliant film to watch. Many have said that Marvel may have risked it with a movie such as this, I personally have to say, I want to see more Marvel movies like Deadpool, please don’t tie him down with the X-Men!

Deadpool The After The Credits Scene (May Contain Spoilers)

Now those of you that love the Marvel movies will know that there is one thing you don’t do when the end credits start rolling, you don’t movie from your seat! Deadpoolis no exception, don’t leave your seat, there is an extra scene right at the end of the credits and for those of you that don’t want to ruin the surprise then stop reading here!

OK … Are you sure you want to carry on reading about the after the credits scene?

Deadpool appears on the screen in a bath robe and goes on to break the fourth wall and say:

You’re still here? It’s over. Go home! Oh, you’re expecting a teaser for Deadpool 2. Well, we don’t have that kind of money. What are you expecting, Sam Jackson show up with an eyepatch and a saucy little leather number? Go, go.

He then returns to tell us:

Oh, but I can tell you one thing and it’s a bit of a secret. In the sequel, we’re gonna have Cable. Amazing character. Bionic arm, time travel. We have no idea who we’re gonna cast yet but it could be anybody. We just need a big guy with a flat top. Could be Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Keira Knightley, she’s got range, who knows? Anyway, big secret, ssshhhh. Oh and don’t leave your garbage all lying around. It’s a total dick move. Go. Chicka-chickahhhh.

So it looks like we are in for another awesome ride with Deadpool, now that I am really looking forward to.
