Looking For Google Easter Eggs? We Gathered The Best Ones For You

Editor’s Note: This post was originally published in April 2, 2015 and has been updated for accuracy and comprehensiveness.

It’s not just kids that get to celebrate Easter. Thanks to Google, grown-ups (and digital geeks like us) can feel like it’s Easter every day. If you enjoyed our Google Easter eggs 2015 list, then you’ll love this new and improved version. Discover what the search engine giant has cooked up for us this year with their fun – and often hidden – little jokes they like to call ‘Easter Eggs’.

Let’s go on a hunt for these elusive surprises all over the Web!

Google Easter Eggs 2016

1. Flip a Coin/Roll a Die

Wondering how to settle sibling disputes? Are you thinking about who will get the last slice of pizza? Forget about the old coin toss: let Google do it for you! One of the most loved Google Easter eggs is the “flip a coin’ and “roll a die”, which when typed into the search field, will do the work for you. Watch a coin flip to reveal a heads or a tails, OR advance in a game by rolling the die!

2. Google Tricks

Who could forget classic favorites such as “do a barrel roll” and other Google Easter eggs? If you want to reminisce about traditional search engine tricks, you can visit this link to check out some of the best, including Google Gravity, Pac-Man, Underwater, and Guitar. Bored of content on the Web? Bookmark the page for hours of fun!

3. Math Love

People say that math is the universal language because it’s the same in every country – and they couldn’t be closer to the truth. In fact, mathematics can be understood anywhere that it even knows the language of love. That’s right: simply type in this apparently long and complex formula into the search field and be awed:

(sqrt(cos(x))*cos(500*x)+sqrt(abs(x))-0.4)*(3-x*x)^0.1

4. Google Language UI

Want to talk like a pirate? How about Pig Latin? Is there such a thing as a Swedish Chef? Thanks to Google Easter eggs, there is! Although it looks like the company’s developers have so much time in their hands, we’re glad they do. These cool languages can be accessed by typing Google + the language you want to try + UI (example: Google Pig Latin UI). Then click on the first option on the search results. Voila! A cool new way for you to search the Web.

5. YouTube Forces

2016 Google Easter eggs don’t just hide on the search engine: they could also be found on other Google products like YouTube. In honor of one of the most popular books and movie franchises in history, Star Wars fans can type in the phrase “Use the force, Luke” and watch everything on your screen warp.

6. Google Docs “Game of Life”

Conway’s famous “Game of Life” can surprisingly be found on a blank Google Docs document – if you know the right keys to press. Want to have a good match before finishing that report? Or maybe you’re just curious as to how the game works? The controls Ctrl+Alt+Shift+E followed by Ctrl+Alt+Shift+C will launch this Easter egg. The same keys will allow you to manipulate the “cells”. It’s going to be tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty amusing!

7. Google Hangouts Easter Eggs

It appears that Google Hangouts has several clever Easter eggs up its sleeves. But perhaps the best is its Konami Code surprise. The trick (known to most gamers and programmers) is typed into a chat, which will reveal a beautiful mountainside setting as a background. Curious to try it yourself? Open up a Hangouts chat and type in: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A and click Enter.

Obsessed over the Konami Code? Find more places where this code is hidden and used today.

8. I’m Feeling Lucky

Although this isn’t an Easter egg per se, have you ever wondered what that little button is for? Hovering over it will reveal multiple choices such as “I’m Feeling Hungry” and “I’m Feeling Wonderful”. Clicking on any of the options will launch a bunch of random yet impressive results (i.e. the “I’m Feeling Wonderful” button will take you to the Cultural Institute).

Try the “I’m Feeling Doodley” to open the Doodles Archive: home to interactive Google Easter eggs games and more!

BONUS: Android N Easter Egg

With the developer preview of Android N, fans are excited to see all the cool new features that they’ll get once it is officially released later this year. As early as now though, people are eager to know whether this version will have an Easter egg or not. Previous editions certainly kept the public hyped up about its hidden surprises (i.e. the Flappy Bird style game in Lollipop).

Believe it or not, the guys at Phone Radar were able to find it! Simply trace the letter “N” on your display and watch what happens!

The company has since produced over a hundred awesome Google Easter eggs, most of which (like the Google Reader ninjas and the Legoland Pegman) have been discontinued. When hunting, widen your scope to include other services such as Google Play, Google Docs, Google+, and even Android devices. Be on the lookout for more as their developers prove they are out there to “Do No Evil”.
