Bookish And Introverted :: Daily Grind #165

I cannot remember the books I have read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson

I once had a girlfriend interrupt me in the middle of a really good part of a really good book. She wanted me to take a personality quiz to see if I was an introvert or an extrovert. I politely put down the book and said okay. Midway through the first question, as I was thinking about all the places I could hide her body, I decided I must be an introvert.

The Land of Story-Books

At evening when the lamp is lit,
Around the fire my parents sit;
They sit at home and talk and sing,
And do not play at anything.

Now, with my little gun, I crawl
All in the dark along the wall,
And follow round the forest track
Away behind the sofa back.

There, in the night, where none can spy,
All in my hunter’s camp I lie,
And play at books that I have read
Till it is time to go to bed.

These are the hills, these are the woods,
These are my starry solitudes;
And there the river by whose brink
The roaring lions come to drink.

I see the others far away
As if in firelit camp they lay,
And I, like to an Indian scout,
Around their party prowled about.

So, when my nurse comes in for me,
Home I return across the sea,
And go to bed with backward looks
At my dear land of Story-books.
— Robert Louis Stevenson

The Future Library - A few years ago, in a forest just outside of Oslo, 1000 trees were planted. In 2114, after a century of growth, the trees will be cut down and made into paper for an anthology of books. Meet the Future Library, an artwork by Katie Paterson.

The Map of An Introverts Brain:

The Terrific Ten - When James Kimmel was nine or 10-years-old, he created, wrote and illustrated a comic book in the vein of “The Fantastic Four.” The comic featured half-a-dozen more characters, many with questionable — at best — superpowers. For Jimmy Kimmel’s 50th birthday, friends of the ABC personality turned his creation into a live-action movie trailer. J.J. Abrams directed the effort, which starred Ben Affleck, Jennifer Aniston, Zach Galifianakis, Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Cousin Sal, Jon Hamm, Shaq, Ty Burrell, Billy Crudup, Jake Tapper and Wanda Sykes:

54 Pick Up - Fifty-four celebrities select their favorite books of 2017.

The Human Library - "A place where real people are on loan to readers. A place where difficult questions are expected, appreciated and answered."

Product O The Day - ThinOptics are the reading glasses so slim you can fit them in a case on the back of your phone:

Outsold By Only The Bible & Shakespeare - The secret to Agatha Christie’s enduring appeal.

Mental Yoga - How to remember what you read.

Holding On For Love - A granddaughter posted anonymously on Reddit, with a simple but heartbreaking caption. "My Grandma, 96, with my Grandpa, 100, hours before her death this weekend. 77 years of marriage."
