The Herobed is a hybrid Mattress that contains foam and microcoils. In fact, this mattress has two layers of microcoils to make it more resilient and breathable. The Herobed is made like a hero sandwich, many layers that all add up to something great.

Overview of the Herobed

This mattress looks like a typical foam mattress but feels more like a true hybrid with full pocket coils. You can order the Herobed direct from their website and it should arrive in about 5-7 business days after placing your order. It comes shipped in a box like the one below. Instead of a typical cardboard box, Herobed turned it into a coloring activities for kids.

When you open the box, you will some additional goodies.

If you have kids you get a cape and some crayons to color the box.

Herobed Construction

Below is a picture of the construction and layering of the Herobed.

Herobed Layers

From top to bottom the constrcution is as follows:

Made in the USA

Knitted fabric cover
Cooling gel foam
Pocket coils (comfort coils)
Transitional foam layer
More pocket coils (support coils)
Base Foam layer

How much does the Herobed mattress weigh?

  • Twin – 65 lbs
  • Twin XL – 69 lbs
  • Full – 90 lbs
  • Queen – 109 lbs
  • King – 139 lbs
  • Cal-King – 138 lbs

The Herobed has a medium firm feel. You will sink into the mattress a bit but you stay afloat with the two layers of coils. This is the first mattress I have tested with two layers of microcoils. The support coils above the base layer are firmer and help transition you into the upper foam layers of the mattress. Witht the added comfort microcoils towards the top of the mattress you get a really nice transition. You won’t notice hitting any of the layers as you lay down in bed. This is what makes a good mattress.

Here’s a clip to illustrate motion transfer on the Herobed. I dropped a 14 lb. bowling boall on it.

Here’s a side view with the cover removed to show you how each individual layer reacts.

Because this mattress has two layers of coils it breathes more than an all foam mattress and will sleep cooler too. Here’s a video shot with my infrared camera that illustrates heat retention on the mattress.

Herobed Recommendations

This mattress is ideal for people who appreciate the pressure relief of foam but still want the quick recovery that only coils can deliver. This mattress looks like a memory foam mattress and the effects of the coil systems are subtle but noticeable. Having two coil systems in the mattress makes for a more pronounced cradling effect. You will sink into the mattress quicklly but it is easier to roll around in this bed over an all foam mattress or even a mattress with 1 layer of microcoils.

This mattress is going feel slightly softer than most pocket coil / foam hybrids in market because the microcoils give the mattress a sort of pillow top type feel. The advantage of using microcoils though is that you wont feel trapped or create a valley where you will roll towards your partner during the night which can happen with traditional pillow top mattresses.
