Chicago News: 3-Year-Old Chicago Boy Shot in Head in Englewood

A 3-year-old boy was shot in the head in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood Thursday afternoon, police said.

Police said they responded to a call of a person shot in the 6200-block of South Aberdeen Street shortly before 5 p.m. They found the child shot in a home and police said it appears to have been accidental.”At this time, nothing points to any random street violence being involved, or any gang involvement,” said Commander Kevin Johnson, Chicago police.

The boy was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. He was still in surgery as of 10 p.m. Thursday.

Police said three young children were home alone at the time of the shooting and three guns were recovered as well as a large quantity of drugs. Police also said the children were there in “extremely poor living conditions” and were playing a game of cops and robbers when the gun went off.

Further information about the victim was not immediately available. Detectives remain at the home and hospital and are working to figure out who fired the gun that shot the boy and who owns that gun.

“So we have to do everything we can to insure instances like this one do not repeat themselves,” Johnson said.

Police said the boy’s parents are being questioned. Police said the mother does have a valid FOID card.
