So I’ve been curious lately seeing so many of your favorites, and frags people are enjoying lately, and all the new purchases....but which ONE Fragrance can you trace it all back to, the ONE (if applicable) that made you really start diving into the hobby?? So not necessarily your first fragrance, but the one that made you inspired or blew your mind thinking (wow, this is so special and/different, what the heck else are they making out there that I never knew existed)
For me, I liked having a handful of fragrances in my 20’s to smell nice and have a few different smells. I had Curve, Luckybrand, Acqua di Gio, and maybe a couple others, but I never thought to put much time into research/sampling/collecting etc. I just liked smells...good ones. Then years later I came across basenotes and fragrantica, and found out there is a massive world of fragrances out there. My first thought was probably mostly the type of stuff I had been getting, just different bottles and companies all pretty much making the same thing. Then I figured, well I might as well look into acquiring some samples and maybe get something new, especially since many of these new bottles I’m seeing are really neat!
Being as I was still just in a curiosity stage, I found luckyscent, and looked at a bunch of options (and learning a lot), and bought a package of 5 samples. I was pretty excited to get them, but as I started to smell and use them, I was a bit let down. After all that research these aren’t even that great, and a couple I didn’t like at all. Then it happened! The fifth and last sample was opened and applied, and I was stunned at what I smelled! I couldn’t believe how different, and clean, and sharp, and mesmerizing it was. The fragrance...............
PENHALIGONS ENDYMION
This was what started my fragrance journey of mayhem. I immediately realized that batting a high percentage was not going to be realistic for me, so I prepared for many disappointments, yet anticipating that I knew I would find more gems by doing more research and learning. Soon after I ordered more samples and found.......
JUBILATION XXV
This one officially sealed the deal for me. Amouage had showed me that fragrances with certain notes/ingredients that I thought were too strange or would never like, can actually be amazing, and XXV is definitely that imo!
Although still just a beginner compared to many of you, I’m excited to know just how far I’ve come, and look forward to learning more from all of you. So.....what is your ONE fragrance, that got the ball rolling???
