Let me start by saying that I am completely honored to have been given the assignment of starting this Thread. I am neither sufficiently eloquent nor most qualified to begin this effort. This is the first thread that I have created on Basenotes, and I can think of no topic more endearing or worthy. I'd also like to point out that I was not a best friend of Silentrich. No, I'm but a fellow Fragrance enthusiast with an idea of us taking a bit of our precious time to remember him in a way that he may appreciate. I presented an idea to Redneck Perfumisto, who in turn discussed with others, and ultimately the idea came back to me with a permission to go forth.
As many of you are aware, one of our dear fellow Basenotes members has passed away after a fight with pancreatic cancer. Cancer (in all forms) is an awful disease, which has likely touched many of us or our families in real life. Richard Greenwell (a.k.a silentrich) became a Basenotes member in May of 2009. He was an active member, who had made many friends here in the community through his advice, classy manner and generosity. In March of this year, Richard informed us of his serious health condition in a sad and touching thread he created (http://www.basenotes.net/threads/435...senotes-family). And just recently another dear member (Checkmate) tried to reach out to Richard and discovered that he had passed away. The pouring out of the community on that thread that Richard created in March has been heartwarming to say the least. I hope everyone remembers Richard's words in his original post of that thread when he says, "Most of all I'd like to tell everyone to enjoy life to the fullest and make everyday a great one."
The Idea:
In remembrance of Richard, we would like for all who are interested to join us in a day of tribute to his memory and love of fragrance by wearing a fragrance from his wardrobe on Saturday, July 29, 2017. If you do not have a fragrance from his current wardrobe, then choose one from his selection of over 300 that he used to own. His wardrobe may be seen here http://www.basenotes.net/wardrobe/31997 . If you can find no fragrance within any of his selections, and would still like to participate, then follow your heart. There will be a memorial service for him on Saturday 29th in real life, and many of us will not be able to attend. However we can show support to his family, an official farewell to him, or simply an acknowledgment to his shared passion of fragrance, by our participation in this effort.
