5 Things to Know: Tuesday, November 10

Welcome to 5 Things to Know – a daily rundown of things you might want to be aware of if you live in, visit, or just like being aware about what’s going on in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. As always, thank you for your continued support of Cactus Hugs.

1) The Election

It’s a week after we voted and…80% of Americans accept that the results are as legit as they always have been:

But, we live in the dumbest timeline, so instead we get wild accusations that, when confronted, turn out to be garbage:

But, hey, that’s not stopping the local TV station from amplifying the nonsense:

And all this while congress and the current administration continue to ignore the pandemic and offer up any sort of help, stimulus, or, well, anything.

We deserve so much better.

2) The Coronavirus

Riverside County reported 721 new cases and 14 additional deaths on since Monday. There have been 1,352 reported deaths from coronavirus this year in Riverside County.

Here is the latest on what’s going on in the desert:

More:

  • Riverside County will remain in the purple tier for at least another week.  Health officials attribute a recent rise in cases in the county to an increase in private family and friend gatherings. The county’s health director told the board of supervisors that cases have been trending younger as of late, particularly in individuals in the range of 15 to 30 years old – this presents a large problem, according to officials, as younger people can tolerate a larger COVID-19 viral load without showing symptoms, which then could see them easily spreading the virus to others.
  • Cases are, once again, surging throughout the state, which is now approaching a startling 1,000,000 reported cases.
  • Nationally, things are getting pretty bad:

And as bad as things are, the head of the Coronavirus Task Force has chosen now…now!…to take a vacation:

Seriously, now more than ever: Be safe.  Wash your hands.  Social Distance. Wear a mask.

3) Yucca Valley man arrested for shooting at car after argument

A Yucca Valley man was arrested Saturday after police say he fired a gun at another man’s vehicle. After an argument at a Yucca Valley convenience store Saturday at about 11 am, two men left, and while driving away, the victim said the suspect brandished a firearm and fired it at his car near Elk and Navajo Trails.

Police obtained a search warrant and say that the found evidence linking the 35-year-old suspect to the shooting inside of his residence.

4) You can still see holiday lights this year!

Hey, did you know that they are still lighting up the Riverside’s Mission Inn for Christmas this year?  I didn’t. But then ever since the thing broke out, I can’t keep track of anything anymore.

There are, of course, some changes, with the Mission Inn lighting the exterior and not allowing pedestrians on the main walkway this year.

The Press Enterprise has more info on the Mission Inn and 11 other places to see holiday lights in SoCal this year.

5) Thank you for everything, veterans

Tomorrow marks Veterans Day and, like everything, it’s going to be a little different this year.  There will be no parade in downtown Palm Springs, but there will be smaller events to honor current military members and those who have served.  The Desert Sun has a rundown here.

To all of those men and women who have served, thank you for your courage. Thank you for your efforts.  Thank you for your sacrifices for your sacrifices.  Thank you for everything. 🇺🇸

Note: This rundown will return on Thursday, November 12.

Stay safe.  Stay smart.  Practice Social Distancing.  Wear a mask.

💚🌵
