This week there are two releases: Vidya Balan‘s Begum Jaan and Dwayne Johnson-Vin Diesel’s The Fate Of The Furious. While both the movies appear interesting and they will surely clash at the box office, we can’t really compare the businesses of both the movies. Quite simply as both the films are quite different from one another and targets or will appeal to different sets of audience.

While one movie a niche film based on facts, the other is a big-budget Hollywood movie with a lot of action. One has a limited audience, while the other has mass appeal. But one thing clear is that neither of the films will be low on content. In fact, from the promos, Begum Jaan and The Fate of the Furious look outstanding and they are sure to rock the box office over the weekend. But the question is how much would they rake in over the first weekend?

Talking about the buzz and prediction at the box office run for both the movies, trade expert, Akshaye Rathi mentioned that Begum Jaan looks interesting to me. It is scary that it has come out against The Fate of the Furious, but having said that, day by day it is appearing more and more interesting. The music is catchy, quite different and it breaks the monotony. Moreoever, if the film carries good word of publicity, it is really capable of going a long way. The accepted truth is that The Fate of the Furious is mass-appealing, hardcore action movie for everyone, but Begum Jaan is not. Furious 8 is expected to come a Tsunami, while Begum Jaan is expected to grow with time. Both the movies are very different in their outlook and the kind of the audience they will earn to. So it is unwise to compare the two. But here’s hope that the 14th of this month is a Good Friday for the entire fraternity, Bollywood as well as the Hollywood fraternity operating in India.

Rathi also reveals that while Furious 8 would get approximately 1700-1800 screens in India, Begum Jaan would get around 1200 screens across the country. With a good pre-release buzz and a nice and considerable screen space, both the films will rake. As Rathi says that The Fate of the Furious can conveniently earn Rs 10 crore on day 1, while Begum Jaan should make earn about Rs 2.50 – 3 crore on the 1st day. Over the weekend, Begum Jaan is speculated to collect Rs 12-14 crore, assuming it gets a good word of publicity. The Fate of the Furious, could make anywhere between Rs 30-35 crore.
