Third Eye, Ænima – Tool
Being the third Tool Album I have reviewed; this album is Tool’s second-ever studio album. During its first release, Rob Theakston of AllMusic “Tool explore the progressive rock territory previously forged by such bands as King Crimson. However, Tool are conceptually innovative with every minute detail of their art, which sets them apart from most bands,”. Over the years this has been more of the same, but Ænima started it all.
The first studio album named Undertow three years earlier begun the experimental tastes of the progressive late nineties. Ænima took it to the next level by its delivery on so many memorable/unique songs. While engaging you in songs that are long, and shorter songs if you decide to listen to the album in order like intended.

Praised overall positive, The Rolling Stone Album guide is the only rating/review I read that could say anything negative about it. Stating “With Aenima, the band’s ambitions nearly get the best of them. The increasing density of their relentlessly downcast music, augmented by occasional electronic noises, begins to feel ponderous,”. Maybe they were not about to accept this newer genre of rock and metal just yet.
This album is one of my most re-listened albums of all time. Recommending some songs above, my favourite songs are most definitely Third Eye, Stinkfist and Forty Six & 2. The legacy of these songs has spawned hundreds of fan covers and music videos. I highly recommend this album to all fans of music as it can go beyond its face of genres and appeals to almost everyone in my opinion.
