A video game review by: Lee Sonogan
(2017) video game/ Adventure, action, family
Smash through the blocks that bar your way, yeah
No time for fear, just let it all fall away (it all fall away) – ENDING SONG
There are many variations to the Super Mario franchise. This video game is close to their games called Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Super Mario Odyssey is about Bowser kidnapping Princess Peach again. But in a hat world dimension of the mushroom kingdom. In this world, a lot of people wear hats.
This is the first game in the Super Mario series to have a vocal theme song which is called Jump Up, Super Star!. This is the 3rd Mario game to be rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and up by the ESRB, after Mario Strikers Charged Football in 2007 and Mario & Luigi: Dream Team in 2013. There are a lot of open worlds in this game. Each world is on the globe of the world there on.
The worlds are all different and have many different designs, puzzles and enemy’s in each one. One of the gameplay features of the game is to use your hat to take control of enemys. Playing as the enemys, they can do things Mario can not. Also they can help with puzzles and getting more moons.
A list of common enemys in the video game Super Mario Odyssey.
- Banzai Bill
- Bullet Bill
- Big Chain Chomp
- Big poison Piranha Plant
- Chain Chomp
- Chargin’ Chuck
- Cheep Cheep
- Coin Coffer
- Fire bro
- Fire Piranha Plant
- Hammer bro
- Lava bubble
- Moe – eye
- Moon snake
- Stairface Ogre
- Much more!!!
The gameplay brings back nostalgia from the other games. I like parkouring with Mario again. The graphics are interesting and create interest in the open worlds. I beat this game with Shaneolian. The ending gives you a decent Bowser boss battle with an interesting twist to finish the game. I recommend this video game to everyone who likes the Mario franchise and the new style of graphics on the Nintendo Switch.
Oh, we can zoom all the way to the moon,
From this great wide wacky world.
Jump with me, grab coins with me, oh yeah! – Jump up, Super Star!
PS – Even though many people are rating this in the high 9’s out of 10, It is not that good. The Breath of the Wild is still my highest rating of a video game for good reasons. This game went in a new direction, but not enough to say its way better than most other games. Do not get me wrong, this game is impressive. I still have heaps of post game moons and starts to get to unlock the final world in the game!
